Waberi</b> (Djibouti)</p><blockquote><p><b>Rencontres d&#8217;auteurs en bibliothèques et dédicaces en partenariat avec les librairies</b></p><p>« Littératures africaines » : un pluriel qui a du sens par l&#8217;étendue du continent africain et la diversité des écritures rencontrées, mais aussi par la variété des thèmes abordés aujourd&#8217;hui par les auteurs.</p><p><span id="more-181"></span></p><p>C’est cette diversité et cette universalité des littératures africaines actuelles qu’Interbibly souhaite faire connaître au public grâce à la présence de 11 auteurs africains ou d’origine africaine et dont les romans sont écrits et/ou traduits en langue française. Ils seront accueillis dans 24 petites et grandes bibliothèques de la région. the protection of this right as a moral imperative</p><p>- the threat of monopoly in the digital media</p><p>- the danger of self-censorship in a demand-orientated market (the pressure on the writer to write what is acceptable and not what s/he wants)</p><p>- the relationship between rights and ethics</p><p>- the Google settlement<br /> </em><span id="more-176"></span><br /> In her contribution, Fay Weldon reminded everybody that the power of the writer is great indeed, no matter how hopeless certain circumstances might seem. She named three examples:</p><p>1) Salman Rushdie is alive.</p><p>(William Nygaard, Salman Rushdie’s publisher in Norway, survived an attempted assassination in Oslo in October 1993, following the issue of the fatwa against Rushdie. In de jaren zestig streed hij samen met Breyten Breytenbach tegen de apartheid en zijn boeken werden door de overheid verboden of gecensureerd. Maar ook de taal, de ontdekking van de taal, bracht hem tot schrijven. Zijn hele jeugd leefde hij tussen de boeken. Bibliotheken waren zijn paleizen en hij droomde ervan schrijver te worden: het schrijven werd een manier om wereldse zaken te doorgronden.</p><p>In <i><a href="http://book.co.za/bookfinder/ean/9789029083690">Tweesprong</a></i> vertelt Brink over het kleine, overwegend blanke plaatsje waar hij opgroeide en waar de dagelijkse spanning tussen zwart en blank een normaal deel van het leven was, over zijn heftige relatie met dichteres Ingrid Jonker, over de vormende jaren in Parijs, over zijn huwelijk en kinderen. Zijn leven speelt zich af tegen de achtergrond van racisme en apartheid. Wanneer hij in de jaren zestig in Parijs is, en treurt om de dood van Albert Camus, de schrijver die hij vereert, is er in Sharpville een bloedbad gaande. Als hij ervan hoort denkt hij: Ja, dit viel te verwachten. Dit moest gebeuren. Maar ’Tweesprong’ gaat minder over diens privéleven, dan om de vraag hoe het land en de tijd hem vormden.</p><p>Elke literatuur kent schrijvers die hun publiek niet alleen intrigeren dankzij hun werk, maar ook vanwege een kleurrijke levensloop. Wanneer zo’n auteur zijn memoires aankondigt, kijken vriend en vijand er reikhalzend naar uit, ook al heeft de schrijver zelf zijn bedenkingen. Fascinerend voor het publiek, maar weerspannig als het gaat om de publieke nieuwsgierigheid te bevredigen: dat is André P. Brink. In de epiloog van het pas vertaalde ’Tweesprong’ bekent hij dat hij dit boek jaren lang uit de weg is gegaan. Brink</i></p><blockquote><p>Vanaf die leeftyd waarop ’n mens gewoonlik jou eerste eksistensiële krisis beleef, was dit op die spore van die skrywer en filosoof Albert Camus dat ek my begewe het. Meer as enigiets of enigiemand anders was dit hý wat my as student Parys toe gedwing het. En toe hy, die meester van die absurde, pas ná my aankoms in die stad, op een van die mees absurde maniere denkbaar in ’n motorongeluk sterf (met in sy aktetassie die onvoltooide manuskrip van <i>Die Eerste Mens – Le Premier Homme</i> – waarmee hy ná jare van skrywersblok sy terugkoms na die wêreld van die literatuur wou vier), het dit sy beeld in my binneste bevestig.</p><p>My hele destydse verblyf in Parys het in die teken van Camus gestaan. Maar op ’n manier was Parys ook net ’n voorlopige tuiskoms, want Camus is nie dáár gebore nie, maar in Algerië, in die gehuggie Mondovi buite die hoofstad. En soos dit gepas was dat die groot taalfilosoof van die laat twintigste eeu, Jacques Derrida, insgelyks nie in die metropool gebore is nie, maar daarbuite, juis ook in Algerië (iets wat hom as ’t ware bestem het om nie die “volle wete” te hê nie maar, in N.P. Van Wyk Louw se onvergeetlike kensketsing van die ongedurige meisie, byna-nie-weet nie maar tog “windskeef góéd weet”), so was Camus se buitestanderskap min of meer verseël deur sy geboorte in Algerië.</p><p><span id="more-158"></span></p><p>Sommer met die intrap in Algiers was dit egter duidelik dat dit nie maar ’n kwessie was van “in Camus se voetspore” gaan loop nie. Dit was asof die stad en sy mense saamgesweer het om alle tekens van Camus se lewe weg te steek, selfs uit te wis (iets waaraan Derrida, die meester van “spore”, hom sou verkneukel het).</p><p>In een van die enigste twee gidsboeke oor Algerië wat ons vooraf kon bekom – die ander een het hom nie eens verwerdig om Camus te noem nie – beweer die skrywer dat Camus se geboortehuis nou in ’n videowinkel omskep is. Dit was soos toe ons in Parys aankom en moes ontdek dat ons geliefkoosde restaurant, beroemd om sy foie de canard poêlé, nou omgeskep is in ’n bleddie pizzeria. &#8230;</p></blockquote><p>Continue
